Admissions

ADMISSIONS INFORMATION FOR OUR SCHOOL

Most  of our pupils in our school, but not all, live in the village. Everyone is welcome at our school, and we have a significant number of pupils from other nearby villages and even further afield!  It is certainly a local village where everyone is made to feel welcome and part of the village’s community, no matter where you and your child happen to live. If you are interested in a place for your child, please contact the school to discuss what we have to offer and arrange a visit.

NURSERY

  • We are able to take children as soon as they turn three and can be flexible about how many days children spend with us. Some parents start their children with just a morning or a day or two and then gradually build up hours, other children start with full days or even every day. We are happy to talk about what you would prefer to start with and any changes after a pupil has started.
  • All three year olds are eligible to receive 15 funded hours and many are eligible for 30 hours.
  • Please see the ‘Nursery ‘ tab on the home page and our Charging and Remissions policy for more details and contact us with any queries or to arrange a visit.

ADMISSIONS TO RECEPTION

  • Children start School in the September before they reach their fifth birthday.
  • Although our Admission Number for Reception is 5 pupils, we can often admit more than that number if more than 5 pupils apply for a place here.
  • Please contact us to find out more and we would be more than happy to talk with you and arrange a visit. It’s a bit like buying a house – you need to come and visit to see if this school is the right one for you and your child.
  • Nun Monkton Foundation Primary School, as a Foundation School, is an Admission Authority in its own right, which means that it has slightly different admissions arrangements to other North Yorkshire Schools. Parents who wish for their child to attend the school must apply through a Common Application Form to North Yorkshire (an online application form can be found on the http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-admissions where parents are asked to complete a form stating their preferred school. However, a Supplementary Information Form (available from school) must also be completed and submitted to the school. North Yorkshire then effectively act as our admissions coordinator but will pass on the details to the school and Governors will apply the admissions criteria when deciding who will be offered a place.

Catchment Area

  • Nun Monkton Foundation Primary School’s catchment area includes the village and surrounding areas [this is defined as: the village and farms nearby which are bounded by the River Nidd and the south side and the River Ouse on the north side. This includes the community of Widdington, the Skipbridge Farm complex and Gowlands complex]
  • Places will normally be provided for those children who live within catchment. However, it is important that parents complete a preference form, even if Nun Monkton is their normal area school and even if their child already attends Nun Monkton School in Nursery.
  • Parents’ expressing preferences for a school, which is not the normal school for the area in which they live, are considered after those from the normal area of that school.
  • Where the School’s maximum admission number, currently set at 5, has been reached, requests for the admission of children in Reception Year are allocated according to the over-subscription criteria set out in our school Admission Policy (and administered by the Local Education Authority). Often, we can admit more than the admission number of 5 pupils. If refused admission, parents will be offered the right to appeal against any such decision.

For admission to any other year group

Please contact the school in the first place to enquire if we have spaces and to arrange a visit. Applications are then made through North Yorkshire by submitting and application form (and also completing the school’s own admission form available from the school on request)
