PSHE and RSE at Nun Monkton Foundation Primary School
At Nun Monkton Primary School we not only actively promote the social, spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils – they sit at the very heart of everything we do! Establishing a strong school ethos supported by effective relationships throughout the school, and providing relevant activities beyond the classroom to ensure pupils’ development. We promote the fundamental British values. Our pupils understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law. Our pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance.
At Nun Monkton, we follow the PSHE Association Programme of study, and each area within this is taught at an age-appropriate level. All children cover each unit but the content detail may vary. The wider school curriculum also plays a part in the delivery of this subject across the school as do our whole school assemblies and class circle times. As appropriate whole-school themes are used to deliver messages within PSHE. British Values are embedded into the lessons that we teach. Each year Relationships and/ or Sex Education is delivered in each year group.
